When were you at JESS? I moved to the UAE in 1982 aged four and was at JESS Jumeirah from 1983 to 1989. I left Dubai for university in 1996 and came back in 2013.
What was it like? JESS was a very small community - it had more of a village feel about it. To get there you had to turn off Hadiqa Street onto a sabkha track. When it rained it was a nightmare!
Best memories? Topical Nights, held on the grass in front of the main hall. Sports days, the plays, and the clubs - football, chess, karate and Subbuteo. And the Headmistress, Rita Lane: always smiling, supportive, and a true pillar of the school.
Advice for today's students? Enjoy your time, make good friends, and appreciate your teachers.
One word for JESS? Community.
Then and Now is JESS's alumni series. Want to be in it?
